This Week's Speaker ... In Person and Zoom
Welcome District Governor Kirk Driskell ... at Dunwoody Country Club or via Zoom

This Friday, the Rotary Club of Dunwoody is proud to welcome Kirk Driskell, our District Governor. You have a choice ... Join us at the Dunwoody Country Club at 7:15 am or grab your coffee or tea and join us on Zoom at 7:15 a.m. to hear from DG Kirk. Just follow the Zoom link - https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86202979419.

Kirk joined the Alpharetta Rotary Club, following in the footsteps of his father, Ken Driskell, who was a charter member and past president of the club. Kirk served as his Club’s President in 2015-2016. Prior to serving as Club President, he served in multiple club leadership roles and was honored to receive both, “Rookie of the Year” and “Rotarian of the Year” awards. He has served on multiple International service trips and local community service projects.

From Our President
Having Fun, Doing Good!

This has been a busier week for the Rotary Club of Dunwoody, as we designed and painted our community picnic table (thanks to all who helped), cleaned up at Bounds Garden, and readied ourselves for this Friday's visit from District Governor!

We have also confirmed with the Dunwoody Country Club that we will be meeting there (with Zoom options always) for the Fall ... with meeting plans almost set through our annual Holiday Luncheon on December 11. That includes a special appearance next week from Peter Kyle, RI Director for Zones 33-34; he will be presenting via Zoom but you may attend on Zoom or in person. It is a special honor to have our Zone RI Director joining our meeting, and Peter will discuss Rotary International’s partnership with the United Nations, UNESCO, UNICEF, World Bank, and other groups.

I am proud to be your President this year and thank all of you for the work you are doing. The picnic table project came about because Louise saw something online and acted on the opportunity. We encourage all of you to keep your eyes and ears open for SMALL and LARGE ways we can serve in our community. It's who we are and what Rotary is all about.

See you soon!

Serving Our Community
The Tale of a Picnic Table ...

How many Rotarians does it take to create a painted picnic table? As many as want to join in the fun!

Louise Barden identified the opportunity, brought it to the community, and worked with those in charge of the community effort. She was joined by Jennie Stipick and Anne Glenn who collaborated on the design , Rick Woods and Griff Ransom who prepped the table for painting, Ron and Louise Barden, Ed Holliday, Hoshi Daruwalla and Jennie who helped with painting.

The table will be located near the CheeseCake Factory at Perimeter Mall - joining others to provide outside dining possibilities. And it's just one more example of how the Rotary Club of Dunwoody is finding projects where social distancing can happen, but the volunteers can do something fun and benefit the community at large.

Thanks for Your Service
Bounds Garden - "We're Here So Let's Go"

Ranger Fred Bounds was feeling under the weather last Saturday (09/19/20), so he canceled the planned session. But as often happens when you publicize an event, not everyone gets the stand down order.

Fred asked Rick Otness to be there to let any people that showed up know that the session was cancelled. When President Nominee Jennifer Bowler showed up at 9 AM sharp with tools, she said to Rick, "Well we are here, why can't we just get it done." Rick didn't have a good answer, so for the next hour Bounds Garden happened, and is now weed free except for two items they couldn't agree were weeds.

Fred may need to start watching over his shoulder. For others interested in maintaining the "Bounds Garden" traffic island at the intersection closest to the Dunwoody Library, there are four more sessions scheduled this year - 10/31/20,  1/9/21,  3/6/21, and  5/8/21.

Mark your calendars. The fun starts at 9 AM and usually lasts an hour. Come join our volunteers - Having Fun, Doing Good.
