This Week's Speaker Join Us to Welcome Tapestri at LeMeridien This Friday
This week we will hear from Maja and Limia of Tapestri, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for immigrant and refugees survivors of violence through education, community organizing, direct services, and advocacy to help them reclaim ownership over their lives! President Jack has selected Tapestri as the recipient of the money we donate to honor our speakers for the coming year - and we will have an opportunity in the next week or two to assemble backpacks for students who are benefiting from Tapestri's services. Maja is the Anti-Human Trafficking Program Director, designing and
providing trainings and outreach on human trafficking on a local, state-wide, and national basis to mainstream service providers, law
enforcement, and community organizations. She holds a Master’s in International Relations and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science
from Georgia State University. Limia is Tapestri's Domestic Violence Program Director. With the organization since 2009, Limia currently manages program
coordinators and conducts multicultural training programs for court personnel,
Law enforcement and immigrant communities. She coordinates the Interpreter
training and maintains the database for interpreters as well. She has a Bachelor of Art
in Sociology and a Master’s in Public Administration with a concentration on
non-profit management from Kennesaw State University
Let's Hear It for Next Week: It's Fun, Fellowship and Football Week!Next week we'll have both Thirsty Thursday - place to be revealed in next week's bulletin - AND (drum roll please) our annual visit from Tony Barnhardt with his outlook on the 2023-24 college football season. Bring family, friends, potential Rotarians to either of these amazing events! Networking Opportunity Rotary Means Business - Tuesday, July 18
Join Rotarians from around Altanta metro this coming Tuesday, July 18 at 6:00 pm. We've moved to a NEW Location:
Mutation Brewing Company, 5825
Roswell Rd NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. There's free parking. Arrive
early as you'd like, grab a table and use the free wifi. As Rotarians, we often want to do business with other Rotarians, but it's hard to find a resource because our occupational
classification system - with more than 1,000 classifications - doesn't always work. The unintended consequence is that you can't find a
Rotarian who performs a service, provides a product or is an expert in a
specific field.
Last month we kicked off a truly
valuable Classification Project. This month we'll provide an update for our
'Beta Test' that you are invited to participate in.https://dpw1d901g0s8f.cloudfront.net/13662.jpg
Ready to Serve? There are opportunities on the horizon where we can "bring hope to the world" and have some fun doing it: - Later this month, we'll fill backpacks with school supplies for some of the students served by Tapestri. Allison North is coordinating this effort. Watch for a call to action!
- August 5, we are joining forces with all the other clubs in the DeKalb Rotary Council to collect used medical equipment for FODAC to be refurbished distributed to people in need of the equipment. See the article later in the newsletter and contact Dave Burr if you have questions and/or want to volunteer
- We are in search of a host family (or two who might share) for the coming Georgia Rotary Student Program year - starting very soon and running through May 2024. As you'll learn in our GRSP program later this month, the student lives on the university campus - our host family is "family away from home" - having the student over some, including the student in holidays, and coordinating activities with the club. There's a bit more to the job - contact Jackie Cuthbert if you might be interested.
