This Week's Speaker
Tanner Stines, Associate Athletic Director, UGA

Join us this week at the AC Hotel to hear from Tanner Stines, Associate Athletic Director, University of Georgia for Facility Operations and Capital Projects. In his role Stines oversees the day-to-day operations of the facilities, building services, maintenance and grounds departments, while focusing largely on capital projects and construction. He is also the sport facilitator for baseball, equestrian, cross country, and track and field.

Stines previously served as the Deputy Athletic Director, Chief Operating and Financial Officer for McNeese State University Athletics, where he oversaw business affairs, team travel and scheduling, human resources, marketing and game operations, while providing senior level administration support to the athletic department. He had oversight of all capital projects, and had been integral in the recovery efforts from the 2020 hurricanes Laura and Delta which devastated the Louisiana Coast. Stines also served as the Sport Administrator for the McNeese Football and Basketball Programs, and oversaw Sports Medicine and Strength and Conditioning. Stines also served the McNeese Athletic Foundation regarding operations and oversight of memberships, experiences, sponsorships and fulfillment.  [more]

Golf Tournament Update
Hats Off to You for Your Support ... and Yes You Can Still Support Us!

With our golf tournament just over two weeks away - on May 13 at St. Marlo - we have all of our sponsors and most of our golfers! And the beautiful hat that's shown here, courtesy of our Hat Sponsor - Nabors Norris, Real Estate Refined. Thank you!

Having said all this, there are still opportunities to support FORE! the Memories:

  • Alison Norris is still working to fill all the volunteer slots for tournament day - contact her if you'd like to help
  • We will continue to welcome new contributing ($250), donating ($100) and participating sponsors ($50) - visit the tournament website to make a donation
  • Think about joining us for dinner at St. Marlo on tournament day, and consider bidding on some of our auction items. Dottie Toney has all the details on the great list of what's to be auctioned, including the Florida fishing trip donated by PDG and Dunwoody Rotarian Bill Woulfin
  • Watch for info next week about a party to stuff the ditty bags we'll be selling to golfers on tournament day.

Our Rotary Foundation
Bequest Society: Making a Difference Beyond Your Lifetime

What do Tina, George, Jackie, Jeannette and Bill have in common?  Not only do they support Rotary with their time and talents – but, amongst others in our club, they are Bequest Society members of our club. That means that they have pledged funds from their estate to The Rotary Foundation to help ensure the work we do now in our community and around the world will continue. If you attended the holiday luncheon, you saw Jennie Springer recognized for a pledge she made on her husband Dennis’ behalf. He wanted to ensure that the work of Rotary around the world continued to improve lives and when he passed away – it was important to Jennie that his wishes be fulfilled. Through their generosity, not only have global and district grants been distributed, but the cost to run the Foundation has been defrayed.

Service Opportunity
Anchor Place Respite - Many Ways to Help

Starting next week, Anchor Place plans to be open two days a week - Monday and Thursday from 10-2 - and offer a range of activities plus lunch for $55/day.

There are ways we can all help with this organization as it welcomes older adults living with mild-to-moderate memory issues and other cognitive challenges, and gives their caretakers a few hours each week to rest and recharge.  For starters, we can spread the word about this resource. In addition, Anchor Place is looking for:

  • Golf umbrellas
  • Poker chips
  • Small costume pieces - like hats and masks
  • Magazines from the 50s, 60s and 70s
  • A small printer
  • A first aid kit (very specific need - contact Anchor Place if you'd like to buy this)
  • Scholarships - to be sure Anchor Place can offer respite to those who might not otherwise afford it.

We'll be sharing more as this initiative grows. In the meantime, you can check out the Anchor Place Respite Dunwoody website.
