NEW Meeting Place
Meet Us at Maggiano's This Friday

MEETING ALERT

This week we move to our new meeting place - Maggiano’s Little Italy, Perimeter Mall, 4400 Ashford Dunwoody Rd., Dunwoody, GA. We look forward to seeing you there for our regular 7:15 am start!

This Week's Speaker
Rosemary Watts, Executive Director, Create Dunwoody

Join us this Friday 6/27 for our first meeting at Maggiano's to welcome Rosemary Watts, Executive Director of Create Dunwoody. Rosemary Watts leads Create Dunwoody to advance the organization’s commitment to advancing the economy through arts and culture in partnership with the business, non-profit, and residential community.

Watts previously served as Business and Cultural Development Manager for the City of Dunwoody focused on economic and arts and cultural development. With a proven track record of success in community engagement and program development, Watts is set to lead Create Dunwoody into a new era of growth and innovation.

Watts has been a Dunwoody resident for 29 years, is the Dunwoody Woman’s Club Evening Chair, a member of the Dunwoody Fine Arts Association, Greater Perimeter Chamber, OCA-Atlanta, and NAAAP-Atlanta, enjoys embroidering, and plays piano and tennis.

Michael Parks Honored for His Gift of Rotary Youth Exchange

President Louise and Past District Governor Jim Squire both paid tribute to Michael Parks for his enthusiastic dedication to the Rotary Youth Exchange Program in District 6900. Here's the short story:

  • Starting in 2015, Michael built an organization of 224 volunteers.
  • From 2017 to 2025, Michael arranged the exchanges for 47 inbound students from 18 countries and the exchanges of 54 outbound students to 23 countries.
  • He received scholarship applications from students in 67 high schools in 17 Georgia counties.
  • 118 families from 18 cities in the state of Georgia were able to welcome students into their homes because of Michael.

That doesn't begin to tell the story of Michael's interaction with students and the impacts on the lives of those students, their host families and our Rotary Clubs. Thank you Michael for all you do for Rotary Youth Exchange, and all you have done for the Rotary Club of Dunwoody!

Congratulations to Peter Sherman and Rick Otness

At last week's year-end celebration, President Louise honored Peter Sherman (right) as our Rookie of the Year for all he did this year from the member survey to strategic planning and taking on the educational part of the GRSP Leadership Weekend, and Rick Otness (left) as Rotarian of the Year for all he does for the club, including tracking all our service hours. Ron Barden also received special recognition as "First Dude."

Attention Parade Enthusiasts! July 4 is coming! Float Building This Sunday!

Have you watched a parade and thought, “I wonder who builds the floats?” or “How could I be part of that?” NOW is your opportunity – you can help build the float AND/or march in the Dunwoody Fourth of July parade, as part of your Rotary Club of Dunwoody! You will be helping carry out a fun-filled 30+ year RCD tradition:

  • Float building will take place Sunday, June 29 at Alison Norris’s home – under the direction of RCD parade chairs Alison Norris and Jennie Stipick. Come at 5:30 PM for a late afternoon of float-building, fun, fellowship and food as everyone brings a food item and beverage to share. Alison's address is 5431 Trowbridge Drive, Dunwoody 30338.
  • The parade starts on July 4 at 9:00 AM from the corner of Jett Ferry and Mt. Vernon Highway. We’ll provide more information next week on exactly where our walkers will gather and what time they need to arrive. Please let Louise Barden know if you plan to walk in the parade!

If parading isn't your idea of fun, think about the July 4 hot dog booth. Jay Brackman can use your help there!

Fun and Community
We Need Help with July 4 Hot Dog Stand - Volunteers and Cookies!

Ready to be part of a long-running Rotary Club of Dunwoody tradition? Then mark your calendar now for Dunwoody's Fourth of July celebration. While the price of hot dogs has increased, the fun and fellowship only grows stronger.

You've seen the article on the parade. You can also be part of the hot dog stand. Jay Brackman is leading the charge there and can use people who want to set-up, grill, prep the hot dogs, cashier and just spread some good Rotary Club of Dunwoody spirit. Contact Jay at atlcubsfan@gmail.com or 404-483-5886 if you would like to help out.

We'd also like COOKIES for the parade - delivered to the booth by 9:00 AM on the Fourth. Contact Louise Barden to let her know if you can bring cookies!
