This Week's Meeting
Join Us Online on Zoom This Friday

I hope this finds you all well. We are all going a little bit crazy in many ways, and one thing Rotary can really sow is hope and companionship. I don't know about you, but I consider myself an EXTREME extrovert who needs to see and interact with people.

This Friday, we plan to hold our first "regular" meeting on Zoom - starting at 7:30 am. I have set this meeting up - you can join by phone or computer - using video and audio if you have a camera and a microphone.

Join Zoom Meeting
https://zoom.us/j/765041782 From PC or phone

Meeting ID: 765 041 782

We plan to hold these online meetings every week - for as long as we need to social distance. In addition to our weekly Thirsty Thursday Zoom calls!

Lots of Pandemic Info in This Newsletter

Please take the time to read this newsletter all the way through - we have included information about:

  • supporting local restaurants
  • newly-available rapid COVID-19 drive-through testing at Georgia Tech
  • a service opportunity that could let you make a difference for people battling COVID-19 right from your own home.
  • a special virtual Georgia Chamber of Commerce meeting with Governor Kemp re: COVID-19.

Take care and we hope to see you Friday morning on Zoom!

Social Opportunity
Join Virtual Thirsty Thursday on April 9

We have the opportunity to be distant and together again this Thursday by using Zoom! So, BYOB and join us online between 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm for an opportunity to chat.

All you need is your computer, a camera (many are built right into the computer) and your microphone on to join this event. just go straight to https://zoom.us/j/700537258 to join the fun! Or, if you have the Zoom app on your phone or computer already, you can click Join Meeting Now and type in the meeting ID - 700 537 258

Supporting Local Restaurants

Tired of cooking during the coronavirus shutdown? Want to support local restaurants? Here are some ideas:

Our own Charlie and Anita Augello have the East 48th Street Market open with curbside pickup. Charlie says, "Our shelves are stocked with everything you always expect to find when you come into the store. We don’t want to run out of anything you may want and you can order over the phone – 770-392-1499 – place your order, pay by credit card, let us know when you will pick up and we will deliver right to your car. Just pop the trunk or roll down the window and we will place your order in. We will also have ready for you tins of Lasagna, Baked Ziti, Meatballs, Eggplant Casserole, Sausage and Peppers. It would be helpful if you would place your order for these items early as possible."

For other Dunwoody dining opportunities, check this AJC article from March 20. You might want to call ahead. And if you are ordering, you might want to let the restaurant know that you are a Dunwoody Rotarian and that you especially appreciate their service during these crazy times.

Anaheim Rotarians Organize Face Shield Assembly Event

Volunteers in surgical masks came together at the Anaheim Hotel last Saturday to assemble face shields to distribute to hospitals, nursing homes and first responders at the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic.

The California volunteer organization that organized the effort, Rotary District 5320, hoped to make more than 30,000 of the shields on Saturday, put together by volunteers in small groups throughout Orange County.

Coronavirus Testing Update
CVS Health Opens Rapid Drive Through Testing Site at Georgia Tech

Governor Brian P. Kemp announced that the State of Georgia has joined forces with CVS Health to increase access to rapid COVID-19 testing. Starting today, CVS will be operating drive-thru rapid COVID-19 testing, offered by Abbott Laboratories, at a site on Georgia Tech's campus. At full capacity, the site will be able to conduct up to 1,000 tests per day.

"Increased access to rapid testing remains one of our top priorities in order to identify more cases, get Georgians the care they need, and prevent further infection in our communities," said Governor Kemp. "This unique, public-private partnership will strengthen our testing capability as we continue to take the fight to COVID-19 in Georgia, and we are grateful for CVS Health's support to stop the spread of the virus."

“CVS Health is uniquely positioned to play a vital role in helping support both local communities and the overall health care system in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Troyen A. Brennan, M.D., M.P.H, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, CVS Health. “Our ability to help coordinate the availability of rapid COVID-19 testing for Georgia citizens will bolster the state’s efforts to manage the spread of the virus and provide people with on-the-spot test results.”

Testing will take place at a parking deck on Georgia Tech's campus, where officials will be able to accommodate multiple lanes of cars at one time. Health care providers, including nurse practitioners and physician assistants from MinuteClinic, the company's retail medical clinic, will be onsite to oversee testing. The process will take approximately 30 minutes from specimen collection to delivery of results, and patients will need to pre-register in advance for a same-day appointment online at www.CVS.com/minuteclinic/covid-19-testing.
