Dunwoody Nature Forest Restoration Update 10/22

Now that we are almost complete with our invasive removal, we will begin over the next few months (once it rains!) to plant natives to allow them to grow for next spring. Nature hates a vacuum and we plan plant invasive natives to out compete the nasties. The common blue violet will planted on the lower hillside near the fallen trees to crowd out the Japanese stiltgrass. Next spring we should have a patch of these, and with any luck we will attract one of Georgia’s native butterflies, the great spangled fritillary as the violet is its only source of food.

Join us the second Saturday of each month at the DNC to help us restore the forest, learn a little more about Georgia native plants, and get some great exercise. Plus learn how to attract butterflies to your yard!

Georgia Dept. of Transportation Update

Starting as early as October 8th, the Georgia Department of Transportation will begin 24/7 closure of two lanes on eastbound I-285 between Roswell Road and Ashford Dunwoody. This will be followed two weeks later by the closure of two more lanes on westbound I-285 in the same section. Those lanes will stay closed for roughly eight months in order to allow workers to complete the replacement of aging bridge sections of I-285. Learn more here.
We expect challenges in navigating the area, particularly during the early stages of the closures. We encourage those passing through or near the I-285 top end corridor to check travel times in advance and plan ahead. Our partners at Perimeter Connects also have a handy resource highlighting when I-285 is at its busiest throughout the week, and when the best times to get around are.
For more project and construction updates, visit the GDOT project page here.
If you have questions or concerns about the project, you can contact the GDOT project team at transform285400@dot.ga.gov.
