This Week's Speaker
Jim Squire, District Governor

Our District Governor, Jim Squire, is a person of action guided by our motto of Service Above Self, as evidenced by his many years of service to his community, his profession and Rotary.

His Rotary service includes the 2017 International Convention Executive Committee, District Youth Services Chair and Assistant Governor, where he won the District AG of the Year Follow Me award. He has served on the Rotary Laws of Life Board, volunteered at several District Conferences and graduated from the Rotary Leadership Institute. [more]

Invite Your Neighbors and Friend to Our Informational Session Re: Stopping Human Trafficking

Our club is hosting a free, informative event addressing the issue of human trafficking. The event, which is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23 at 6:30 P.M. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia, includes both a private showing of the movie “8 Days” and a candid discussion with federal, state, and local law enforcement. We would like to have as many club members as possible attend this special event, AND we need your help:

  • In sharing the event with your neighbors and friends - we are sharing, through an ad in the Crier, Facebook, letters to local churches, schools and homeowner associations but can use your help to spread the word!
  • As a volunteer to help welcome attendees on the 23rd. Contact Griff Ransom at griffransom@bellsouth.net if you can help!

Louise Barden

From my earliest days, I always wanted to make a difference. Rotary allows me to have fun while making a difference and doing good.

I am a North Carolina TARHEEL. I was born, lived and went to school in Durham, graduated from UNC Chapel HILL with a BS in medical technology/clinical laboratory science. I attended grad school when my oldest child was looking at colleges. I received a master’s in education and PhD in Health Promotion and Behavior from the Univ. of GA while I was working at the Centers for Disease Control. [more]

Bounds Garden Expeditionary Force Strikes Again!

A lean and mean (in their minds) expeditionary force took control of the Gardens (33° 56’ 37” N 84° 19’ 55” W) at 0900 Saturday. An advanced squad composed of Fred Bounds and former Dunwoody Rotarian Warren Turner were on site at 0800 and after assessing the situation, retired to Panera‘s for sweet rolls and coffee. The third team member, Rick Otness, joined Bounds and Turner at 0900. Working with lightning speed, they quickly pacified the garden of leggy branches, impudent weeds and perimeter detritus.

The operation was over almost before it had begun. The garden was transferred back to civilian control at approximately 0925.

For new Dunwoody Rotarians, Bounds Gardens, previously named Monroe Park, is the traffic island across Chamblee Dunwoody Road from the Dunwoody library. Although it may seem so, no special operations expertise is necessary to participate in these periodic missions.

Want to join this expeditionary force? Watch for announcements of their next foray here and at Friday meetings. Or call Ranger Fred!
