Pam Jones, Development Director, Community Assistance Center (CAC) ... via Zoom

CAC brings together the Sandy Springs and Dunwoody communities to provide compassionate assistance to neighbors in need by providing financial support, helping to meet basic needs and promoting self-reliance. Since 1987, CAC has played a vital role in the cities of Sandy Springs and Dunwoody by preventing hunger and homelessness, providing assistance for basic needs such as utilities, food and clothing, and actively engaging clients to work towards greater self-sufficiency. President Ardy has selected CAC as the recipient of this year's gift in appreciation of our speakers.

Pam Jones has 12 years of experience in nonprofit development. She led CAC’s $2.4M Building Hope Campaign to expand capacity in order to serve more neighbors in need. She spent 30 years in corporate sales and sales management. Pam is charged with growing client and donor relationships, engagement and commitment. She brings strategic, organizational and leadership expertise to CAC and has contributed significantly to broadening CAC’s base of support by cultivating new individual and private foundation donors, business and civic partners, and congregation members."

Join Us August 20 for Thirsty Thursday at East 48th Street Market

Next Thursday, August 20, we are taking our Thirsty Thursday party - with all social distancing precautions in place – back to the parking lot outside Rotarian Charlie Augello's East 48th Street Market! Festivities begin at 5:30 pm and continue until about 7:00 pm. As we did in June, we'll have live music to entertain us.

Here's how the evening will work:

• Please bring your chair, a small side table if you want one, and, if you are ordering wine, your own wine glass.
• You may order food in advance from the Market's daily menu - which you can review at https://www.e48thstreetmarket.com/menu/ - orders should be emailed to Jennifer Bowler at jbowler325@gmail.com by noon on Monday, August 17 - with preferred pick up time. Please review and order ahead if you plan to eat, so that we don't overwhelm the Market staff the night of the event.
• If you pre-order, you can go into the Market, pick up your food order, select your beverage (including soft drinks, bottled beer and bottles of wine) and pay. Wine drinkers, please bring your wine glass with you.
• If you don't pre-order, you can go in and place an order and wait for it to be ready. Please try to pre-order by Monday noon, to make this easier for Charlie's team.

Five Easy Steps for Inviting Someone to This Friday's Meeting

Good stories bear repeating! This month, Rotary International is focused on Membership and Club Development and we would like to do the same. Here are five easy steps for inviting a potential member this week: 

1. Read about the speaker in the newsletter.
2. Think of one person who would benefit from hearing what this speaker has to say.
3. Call them to tell them about the speaker.
4. Follow up with an email and give them the zoom link for Friday and remind them to set their alarm so they are up at 7am.
5. Have fun introducing them at the meeting Friday morning.

And if this week isn't the "right" opportunity, think about inviting someone to meet us at Thirsty Thursday next week - August 20 - at the East 48th Street Market!

Jennifer Jones Makes History as the First Female Rotary International President

Jennifer E. Jones, a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada, has been nominated to become Rotary International’s president for 2022-23, a groundbreaking selection that will make her the first woman to hold that office in the organization’s 115-year history. Jones will officially become president-nominee on 1 October if no other candidates challenge her.

Jones says she sees Rotary’s Action Plan as a catalyst for increasing Rotary’s impact. “As we reflect upon our new strategic priorities, we could have never envisioned that our ability to adapt would become our North Star during what is inarguably the most profound time in recent history,” Jones said in her vision statement. “Silver linings rise out of the most challenging circumstances. Using metric-driven goals, I will harness this historic landscape to innovate, educate, and communicate opportunities that reflect today’s reality.”

As the first woman to be nominated to be president, Jones understands how important it is to follow through on Rotary’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Statement. “I believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion … begins at the top and for us to realize growth in female membership and members under the age of forty — these demographics need to see their own reflection in leadership,” Jones said. “I will champion double-digit growth in both categories while never losing sight of our entire family.”

Jones is founder and president of Media Street Productions Inc., an award-winning media company in Windsor. She was chair of the board of governors of the University of Windsor and chair of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce. She has been recognized for her service with the YMCA Peace Medallion, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, and Wayne State University’s Peacemaker of the Year Award, a first for a Canadian. Jones holds a Doctor of Laws (LL.D.).

A current Rotary Foundation trustee, Jones has been a Rotary member since 1997 and has served Rotary as RI vice president, director, training leader, committee chair, moderator, and district governor. She played a lead role in Rotary’s rebranding effort by serving as chair of the Strengthening Rotary’s Advisory Group. She is the co-chair of the End Polio Now Countdown to History Campaign Committee, which aims to raise $150 million for polio eradication efforts. Jones recently led the successful #RotaryResponds telethon, which raised critical funds for COVID-19 relief and was viewed by more than 65,000. Jones has also received Rotary International’s Service Above Self Award and The Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service. She and her husband, Nick Krayacich, are members of The Rotary Foundation’s Arch Klumph Society, Paul Harris Society, and the Bequest Society.

Our own Past RI Director Robert Hall was on the Nominating Committee that selected Jones for this role. And our Past President Laura Kann - now an Honorary Member of our club, will serve as District Governor of her district in Illinois when Jones is RI President.
