SPEAKER THIS WEEK: Congresswoman Lucy McBath
Congresswoman Lucy McBath is a mother, a wife, an author and an activist, but the most important title she will ever hold is Jordan’s Mom. McBath spent 30 years working for Delta Airlines as a flight attendant until the death of her 17-year-old son, Jordan Davis, in 2012. Jordan was shot and killed in what became known as the “Loud Music Shooting.” After his death, McBath turned to activism. She has dedicated her life to preventing other families from experiencing the same tragedy that she did. McBath held dual roles as the national spokesperson for Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action, as well as faith and outreach leader for both. After years of advocating to local, state, and federal legislators, the Congresswoman decided to run for office herself. She decided to run for the Georgia State House in 2017, but after the Parkland shooting she knew she had to step up and run for Congress. In addition to her experiences with gun violence, the Congresswoman was inspired to run for Congress because she is a two-time breast cancer survivor. She knows the importance of covering those with preexisting conditions and increasing accessibility to quality and affordable health care. The Congresswoman proudly represents Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District.
meeting schedule miscommunication
Members,
As we were adjusting the meeting schedule a miscommunication occurred with management at Fleming’s. I had previously informed them that we would not be meeting on Feb 22. They then scheduled another group of people for the 22nd starting at 8:30. This presents a bit of a logistical problem.
Nevertheless, we will still meet on Feb 22nd with Congresswoman Lucy McBath as our speaker. I’ve agreed with Fleming’s that we’ll end no later than 8:15. I have a plan to do this and I ask that everyone please work with me to get it accomplished.
·Arrive as close to 7am as possible.
·The breakfast bell will ring at 7:10. Please, as quickly as you can, get food and find a place to sit.
·I will begin the meeting at 7:20, promptly on time.
·I’ll introduce guests finishing no later than 7:25.
·Ken Levy will have no more than 10 minutes to update us on the Governors Ball. End no later than 7:35.
·Mike Parks will pour some Sunshine on us and introduce the speaker. She goes on at 7:40.
·The Congresswoman will speak for 20 minutes and do Q&A for 5. It’s now 8:05.
·We’ll do the Laws of Life raffle, 4-way test and Pledge of Allegiance.
·We’re adjourned at 8:15.
The Congresswoman will be at the front of the room for informal chatting after 8:15 until they throw us out.
If this places a burden on anyone I sincerely apologize. We learn as we go.

Spruceapalooza Set for Saturday March 2
Spruceapalooza Set for Saturday March 2 at Monroe Park by Fred Bounds, Superintendent, Monroe Park
On the first Saturday in March, at 9:00 a.m., we’ll be planting 40 Purple Pixie Loropedalums around the Monroe Park perimeter. All Sprucetarians, family and friends are invited! This project was planned with the able assistance of Su Ellis, Master Gardener at the Dunwoody Nature Center. The plants are being provided free of charge by the Dunwoody Department of Public Works. So bring your gloves and trowels and we’ll see you Saturday March 2.
(Monroe Park is our Adopt-A-Spot traffic island across from the Dunwoody library.)
