"I Have My Own Book" at Kingsley Elementary School

Working in conjunction with the media specialist, the Rotary Club of Dunwoody purchased books to be given to all children in several grades at Kingsley ES.  Kingsley is a Title 1 school and many children do not own any books of their own.

The Rotary Club of Dunwoody provided 400 books for students to call their own. Families with limited resources/English as a 2nd language at Kingsley Elementary School cannot afford to spend money on quality reading materials. Book ownership is proven to increase greater reading enjoyment. Language skills and comprehension is six to eight times better with physical books. Physical books help readers absorb and recall content.

The school media specialist selected the books based upon age appropriateness, reading levels and other academic considerations.  Rotarians acquired the books, labeled them with Rotary placards as being gifted by the Rotary Club of Dunwoody and RI, and the books were distributed to the children.
