Atlanta West End: Service Above Self on the Westside BeltLine
In September, the Rotary Club of Atlanta West End came together to clean up the Westside BeltLine trail and help keep this shared community space welcoming for everyone. Our service benefited neighbors who live along the trail, people who use it for walking and exercise, and visitors who come to enjoy the Westside.
What made the day especially meaningful were the connections created through service. People passing by stopped to thank our members. A couple who had recently moved to Washington Park from California stopped to talk with us and then joined the cleanup. Invited guests also served alongside us and expressed interest in learning more about Rotary.
Our members demonstrated Service Above Self by giving their time and energy on a Saturday to care for a public space that benefits the entire community. They worked alongside guests and welcomed neighbors who wanted to help.
The experience reinforced a simple lesson: a service project does not have to be complicated to make an impact. Choose a place your community values, show up, serve, and invite others to join you. People notice when Rotary is present and serving.
For us, it was another reminder of why Westside is the Bestside!
