District 6900 Disaster Relief
Ready to Serve - A New Way to Provide Financial Support for Disasters

Disasters across our region and around the world are becoming more frequent and severe. As people of action, District 6900 Rotarians are ready to respond with compassion, practical help, and hands-on service.

Hurricane Helene transformed our district’s approach to disaster response. Today, District 6900 has a fully stocked disaster relief trailer equipped for tree and debris removal, muck-outs, and construction. Our volunteers were deployed to Augusta, GA and Asheville, NC when they were initially damaged by Hurricane Helene. They joined a multi-district effort where combined resources and donations made a meaningful impact.

However, recovery often continues long after major relief organizations leave. Communities may still need volunteers to clear property, rebuild homes, and help families restore their lives. Rotary can step in during this critical stage. Currently, we are exploring ways to aid communities in Asheville while we are there for the 2027 District Conference

Many compassionate and caring members of our District have inquired about how they can contribute individually to various disaster relief efforts in Georgia as well as globally. So, our District leadership has decided to offer the ability for individuals to donate to our Charitable Fund, restricting these donations to disaster relief. Establishing an account this way will give our district the flexibility to deploy the trailer, volunteer teams, and financial resources where they are needed most. Checks for donations should be made payable to Rotary District 6900 Charitable Fund, Inc. and mailed to Ms. Cheryl Greenway, D6900 Treasurer at: 1021 West Court, Canton, GA  30115. In the memo section of the check, put the words "Disaster Relief". Your donation will be tax deductible as allowed by the IRS.

When disasters occur elsewhere in the country or internationally, we will continue to identify trusted Rotary partners with whom we can align to offer our support. With District Rotarians’ input, our Trustees will make decisions on which disasters to help and the level of our financial contribution and hands-on aid.

Thank you for helping District 6900 remain ready to serve—and for showing survivors that Rotary cares.
