In case you haven't been following my story in the district newsletter so far this Rotary year, my name is Sean M. Minton, and I am an active duty U.S. Army infantry captain. I was selected as a Rotary Global Grant Scholar for the 2019-2020 academic year to obtain an International Peace and Security Master of Arts at Kings College London. My pursuit of this one-year master’s program started during my time as a Basic Training Company Commander at Fort Benning, Georgia. After receiving approval from the Army and a final approval from Rotary International, I departed for London, U.K. in September 2019 to begin my MA program. The scholarship enables me to study a program that revolves around the United Nations and international law with international peace and security as its focal point. The program strives to inform its students of all the institutional and legal mechanisms available to prevent conflict and promote peace in the world. Most importantly, it aligns with the Rotary focus area of Peace and Conflict Resolution/Prevention. The program is comprised mainly of international students stretching from North America to Europe to China and Japan. The year of study in London will assist me in my ambition of becoming a U.S. Army strategist and advising peace at the forefront of foreign and military policy.

While in the U.K., I have been graciously hosted by the prestigious Rotary Club of London (RCL) located in Mayfair, London. Chartered in 1912, it was the first trans-Atlantic club, and is the premier club in Great Britain with over 130 members. I am very involved with the club and attend meetings monthly in addition to special events. Most recently, I attended the annual Scottish Burns Night dinner, represented the London Rotary district in the Lord Mayor's Parade, and will be attending a dinner at the House of Lords in February in honor of the club’s past presidents.

I am also helping to establish a Rotaract club sponsored by RC: in order to introduce young Londoners and other international students to the Rotary cause. Through RCL and my program at King’s College London, I have met an incredibly diverse group of individuals attempting to make a lasting, positive impact on the world. This Rotary experience has shown me just how bright the future can be with the impact of all these remarkable people.
